March 24, 2014 - Franklin Park, IL

Oh ellooooo!
Hermana Ramirez and I had a pretty sweet week. Actually, it was pretty
non eventful, standard week....filled with lots of eating
appointments. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Mexican food?
Flautas, pambasos, enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos, something
interesting and unidentifiable from El Salvador) and ceviche. Haha,
all I'm saying is don't be surprised when I come home looking like
Shamu. Beached whale.
Again, wasn't too eventful. Buttttt, on the bright side, we got an
entire family to church with us yesterday. The wife is a member
(baptized as a kid, went inactive as a teenager and came back just two
or so years ago), the two daughters (21 and 23ish) and husband are
not....just investigators for a REALLY long time. Long story short,
the family is from Chihuahua....Ramírez is from Chihuahua- they were
all about each other. Maybe it's like this in English wards, I'm not
really sure, but people here have 'favorites' when it comes to
missionaries. Ramirez was THE chosen one. When Pearson and I came to
open the area in October, this family fell into our area, taking them
away from Ramirez. Is everyone following? In case you've forgotten, or
haven't put the pieces together, Ramirez was in this ward in the Fall,
before she went home for medical stuff. Anyway. This family was NOT
happy that the two white girls were gonna come visit. Butttt as usual,
they learned to love us- and everything was well. Almost. These people
don't want to progress. The husband   And youngest daughter come to
church almost every week, but refuse to do anything else. You know,
the standard reading and praying. As for the oldest daughter, she was
a 2yr old son with no father in the picture- and I guess some member
said something rude to her about the whole situation and for that, she
hasn't return. Point is. Ramirez and I are pretty much the dream team
here.,,so we figured we'd step it up a notch on Wednesday, to see what
would happen. Well, Hermano got really mad because he believes that
baptism in our church isn't essential to have a eternal family,
therefore he doesn't have to do anything. Ehhhh, wrong. Not that we
said it like that. It was solid though. We uncovered a lot of doubts
and questions that they all had. Hermana even told us she has the goal
to go thru the temple this year...probably without her family
#SalvationisPersonal #nomorewaiting. It was nuts. Anyway invited them
to start making steps as a FAMILY. And what happened? All of them were
at church yesterday(!!!), including the daughter! Leggggitttt.
That's about it. Just moving forward. But imma keep this weeks letter
shortish...first time for everything, eh?
Have a fabulous week!!!! Don't forget to write your favorite Chicagoan
missionary!

Hermana Mortensen

1. Perks of having a Mexican companion. Fresh chile rellenos!
Downside, the apartment still smells like fried food.
2. Anyone ever played this game? Not only am I terrible with my
Disney/Pixar characters, but playing in Spanish? Needless to say, I
lost. 5yr old girl knew her stuff!!!
