Hands down crazy psycho week.
Picked up my new companion on Tuesday....she was gone by Thursday
afternoon. So now I'm the awkward floater with the other Hermanas
here. I've been sleeping on their floor, eating their food....it's
been good. They have a decent amount of work going on here, so trying
to cover the two areas has been interesting.
Note. For those who have seen 'The District 2' (if you haven't, skip
to next paragraph)...they have an investigator who is EXACTLY like the
guy who's in the Christian rockband. Seriously, same guy. Band and
all. At the end, we invited him to be baptized...he said he'd already
been baptized, and asked if it was invalid because it wasn't in our
church....of course the two children look immediately to me to say
something- so I gave him almost the word for word district answer.
SCORE! #thanksPresidentforhavingmewatchthosevideosoverandoveragain.
He's not on date. But he said he'll come to church if we go to one of
his praise/worship concert thingys.
Funeral on Thursday.
Member got shot on Friday and died.
Stake Conference weekend.
On the bright side, we Did service at a food pantry on Saturday
morning, bagging and passing out food. It was actually really cool.
Just the day before I had read this talk given by someone by the name
of Hyrum Smith- defs not the brother to Joseph Smith. It was given
recently, and sounds like a BYU devotional. Anyway, the talk pretty
much goes through all the history from Christ's birth to when the
church was restored- giving detail to dates pertaining to the
apostasy. Anyone know what talk I'm referring to? Sorry I don't have a
title. It's decently informative if anyone can find it. Point is, the
food pantry was at some church, didn't actually have any members from
their congregation there to help, and was run by member from various
other churches. We had the local Catholics, Methodists, Lutherans, and
of course the Mormons. Pretty much everyone besides the Jehovah
Witnesses....but we all know where they were. Knockin doors!!! Haha.
I had never done this, obviously, but I guess the other Hermanas go
every week- and they said that everyone there is really tight and
open. So clearly at the end, I wanted to ask them about their
religions. I like to think I know a decent amount about the Catholics,
but anyone else?, forget about it. I asked the cute little ladies what
is the defining difference between their church and any other
Christian church. The response from all of them? "I don't know....Ask
my pastor!" . Woof. Why go to church if you don't know what you
believe and WHY? Haha, that was a lot of story just to tell you that I
know the Priesthood authority was taken from the Earth, but was all
restored by Joseph Smith. We didn't break off from any other churches
because we didn't like their doctrine or the way they did
something....no, we're the same church Christ first established. Not
changed by man to fit what we WANT and what we THINK is best- but what
Christ has set forth to be best. Mmmm. Love it.
If anyone is wondering, it's currently 45 degrees outside. IM ON TOP
OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!! #lifeisgood
Be a missionary this week. Share the word.
LOVE
Hermana Mortensen
Hermana Wilki.....my 48 hour companion. Turns out she went to high
school with Whitney Johnson and played basketball with her. Nuts.
