Happy Presidents' Day!! #Obamawhereyouat?
Okay. I feel like I have lots to say, and not a lot of time. Here we
go with this week's top 10!
1. Showed up for our usual Monday dinner appointment with one of our
less actives. She had two surprises. Freshly made cake and our
referral/investigator that we've been trying to get in with. Turns out
their friends. Nuts.
2. We were visiting a different less active, who happened to have had
an intense spine surgery a few weeks ago and is home recovering, when
her Polish physical therapist came over. Bless both of their hearts.
Weird translations going on everywhere.
3. Had exchanges with the new Stls! Hermana Jones came and kicked it
with me here. We had an awesome time! Babygirl served here for the
first 8 months of her mission...and that was about a year ago. Almost
all of our set appointments cancelled on us- but it worked out
perfectly. I had her take me around to find people that she once
taught, that somehow fell thru the cracks. Not sure why no one made
records for these people. But on the bright side, we got two solid
'new' investigators and a less active/part member family out of it.
Perfecctttt!
4. Sooooo, the Hermana I mentioned in #2, bless this lady. She's
living with her son. I'm not gonna judge here, buttttttt he's been
jobless for the last year, has a slight video game addiction, and
seems to think a 'Hungry Man' meal is substantial enough for his
recovering mom. Poor thing couldn't figure out how to prepare it by
herself, and was basically half starving when we went to visit her on
Tuesday. Anyway. Hermana Pearson may have mentioned that I love to
cook and that I can do Hispanic food. Friday rolls around, and we
surprised her with tinga and everything! For those who don't know what
that is, it's like shredded chicken that's been cooked in a chipotle
chile salsa, and then you put it over a tostada with crema, beans, and
cheese. Never seen a Hispanic A) so excited to eat Mexican food
prepared by a white girl and B) actually enjoy it. Let's just say
she's told everyone who's come to visit her...and today at church, the
young women's president asked me if I'd want to teach all the girls
how to make it. Whaaaaa? Pretty sure they should be teaching me.
#likeaboss.
5. Edwardo. Where to start with this man? He told us this crazy story
about when some gangbangers came into his jewelry store, took
everything and shot him- and later, threatened to kill him if he
testified against the guy who shot him. Defs in the witness protection
thingy. Yes, Edwardo is his real name. Anyway. He was like, 'God saved
my life, and I didn't realize that then....I thought I was just
lucky...and I didn't think I needed to thank Him for anything. Now I
realize that He gives me EVERYTHING. I thank him daily for the small
things.' Such a solid man. Proof of what the Gospel can do for people.
Also made us hold hands in McDonald while we prayed. That was a new
one.
6. Taught one of our active families about the Alma/Amulek principle.
It's something President shared with us a while back and encouraged us
to share with the members, but we never really did it for some lame
reason. Anyway. Totally worked. At the end, Hermano was like, 'I have
an idea!!! I want to introduce you to all of our neighbors. You need
to teach them all'....he actually made the goal, right then and there,
to introduce ALL of the people on his street, polish and Italian one
included, to the missionaries. Such a boss. I'm including a picture
with the list of scriptures we read. I encourage you to all study it,
and pray to know how to better help your local missionaries.
7. Our Plan of Salvation game has gone viral around here. You should
see our meal calendar. Everyone wants to feed us and be taught!
8. Two people who were on the bottom of our list of people to see at
church on Sunday, showed up. Such an awesome experience! One is the
daughter of a member...her non member dad and sister come every
week....but she never comes because she feels uncomfortable as a
single mother. But she came! And she really seemed to enjoy it. For
the other, he's the ex-boyfriend but father of her child, of one of
our active members. Guess he showed up at her doorstep on Sunday
morning and said he wanted to come to church. All dressed in a suit
and everything! He sat between Pearson and I in Sunday school and said
he loved it. Did he have the gospel library app on his iPhone and had
it all marked up? Yes. So solid.
9. The weather is getting warmer. High 30's is rocking my world.
10. LOVED all the valentines from you all! Wanna wish unlimited love
to you all! Haha can't believe I just quoted Dad quoting some black
singer man. Woof.
Hope this week treats you well! Speaking of treats....Thursday marks 1
year!!! It's weird to think that it was just a year ago that I was in
SLC with my family, hanging out with the Praters and then going to the
MTC. What a year it's been!!
Love you all so much! Thanks a MILLION for the love and support.
