May 12, 2014 - Franklin Park, IL

Happy late Mother's Day!!
So pleased with yesterday! It was great talking with everyone, and
catching up. Weird to think that that's the last time.
It's been another awesome, service oriented, new people finding week.
The lady downstairs, TAUGHT. Real talk, she'll be a tough nut to
crack...but she's a gem, and we already love her so much. Tough,
mostly because she has a catholic/atheist outlook. Confusing, I know.
If anything, she's a good friend to have here. Every time we visit,
she's got a new friend downstairs that we get to meet. And she LOVES
talking about us. As missionaries, we're a little weird. People are
generally really curious to hear about us after she tells them things
like, 'oh yeah, they do Service...' Or "...these girls are
single...and poppin ;) , jobless, sober, and 21...just spreading the
word of God...'. That one usually gets them.
Back to the thing about meeting all of her friends. Don't get me
wrong, they're nice people and all....but for the most part, they're
very similar in their way of thought. One of them told us Saturday
night that we're basically brain washed, and that organized religion
makes you closed minded....and that technology is all we need in the
world today. Blah blah blah. It got me thinking for sure. I don't
think it was a coincidence that my study the next morning was on Alma
30. If you're familiar with the chapter, perfect... If not, read it! I
think I'm allowed to say that we met some 'Korihors' this week. They
want signs, PROOF that everything we say is truth. God exists. Book of
Mormon is real. Joseph Smith translated it.  It was said this week by
someone, that the Bible was written for it's day and is way outdated
for today's world...and that we're outdated for following/studying it.
Sound anything like verse 23? I love this quote fro, President Henry
B. Eyring that said this, 'When we reject the council that comes from
God (referring to the teachings of prophets, ancient and
modern...Bible or Book of Mormon), we do not choose to be independent
of outside influence. We choose another influence. We reject the
protection of a perfectly loving, all loving, all knowing Father in
Heaven. In rejecting His council, we choose the influence of another
power, whose purpose is to make us miserable and whose motive is
hatred.'... 'Traditions of our fathers',which is what Korihor refers
to it as; teachings from the Bible and the Book of Mormon, teachings
from the prophets....whatever you want to call it, it IS for our day.
God doesn't change and neither does His teachings. I really dig the
quote though. If you think you'll be 'free' from disregarding God and
His prophets, you're not. #lovestuding #doit
Highlight this week- special zone training meeting. WE WENT TO THE
TEMPLE WITH PRESIDENT AND SISTER WOODBURY. Such an awesome experience.
They were instructed by one of the twelve apostles, I believe it was
Elder Nelson, to take all of the missionaries to the temple. We
participated in a session, and afterwards took a little walk around
the sealing room. Afterwards, we had lunch and the actual meeting part
which included all of us sharing our testimonies and experiences with
the Book of Mormon challenge that President gave us at Christmas time.
And after that, President gave us special training on.....drum
roll.......GETTING MARRIED!!! We had the talk that most seasoned
missionaries dread. Haha, I enjoyed it though. He mentioned how the
Adversary is attacking families thru everything that is going on in
the world, i.e. Gay marriage, abortions, coexisting, etc. And besides
that, according to President, there's a problem with missionaries
locking their hearts and not unlocking them after the mission...and
then not getting married. Not me. I'm giving myself 6months.
Hahahahah. Kidding.  Point is. Eternal Families. Beautiful thing,
really. I'm most ever grateful for the one I have, and the one I can
have...sooner or later :) Glad I was able to have that experience this
week.

Hope you all enjoyed your day yesterday! Shout out to allllll the
lovely ladies in my life! LOVE YOU!!!
