This week has been jam packed with service! Not going to lie, in my
Buffalo Grove days, service consisted of helping an investigator move,
blowing up balloons/decorating for a birthday party and raking leaves.
5 transfers and that's all we got. Pretty lame, right? Here? We've
taken Presidents challenge to do at least 5hours of service weekly,
pretty serious. Saturday for example- we helped the non member
neighbors of one of our member families move. It was supposed to be
young men activity (we asked if we, along with the other missionaries
could help). Who showed up? One young man, which is rather pathetic
seeing we have about 20 in the ward.... the two other Hermanas and 2
elders. The poor elders even rode their bikes for an hour in the
morning just to get there. Bless their hearts. It was awesome though!
The family was moving from their small apartment to a house right down
the block. Had they packed or cleaned anything? Of course not!!
Besides the beds and heavy dressers, we walked everything down to the
house. Haha. I'm attaching a picture of the huge lamp...,and the
little helpers who carried the crystals so they wouldn't break. And
ummm, nice jacket..eh? #thriftstoremagic. The member neighbors have
wanted us to contact them for awhile, but I swear, these people were
NEVER home. Anyway, guess whose got an appointment with them on
Tuesday? THESE HERMANAS!!!
Things are looking up for our area! Between lessons, service, and
random ward gatherings/parties (we had a party on Saturday for 'dia de
niƱo'....didn't know such thing existed) , it's been hard to find time
to tract like we would like it. The Lord has miraculously placed
people in our laps though, which is always the best!
Hope to hear from you all soon! Have a wonderful week!

Kids holding the crystals.
This would not be the typical Hermana Mortensen letter without any
reference to food. This here is the BEST! It's called a
jibaritos...Puerto Rican food. Unfortunately, you can't see to well.
But it's your basic sandwich, carne asada, lettuce, tomato, mayo,
cheese....BUT, instead of bread, that's fried smashed banana. Ah. I
could live off of this.
