June 24th, 2013 - Mundelein, IL

Hey Family!
What a week. Last Monday feel like an eternity ago. The sense of time in the mission is such a weird thing.
To answer all of your questions. Transfer calls came on Saturday night...of course Deleon and I are both staying, seeing that she's leaving in two weeks. I was a surprised though when they told us our new companion is a visa-waiter...and she's still being trained. Wha? Someone who possibly knows less Spanish than me? Her name is Hermana Reed - she's waiting for her visa to Argentina (one of the missions in Buenos Arries). She was trained last transfer by Hermana Hilton and Ericson (Ericson was in the MTC with me and is most of the pics from the MTC era). Point is. I'm staying here forever. Deleon is leaving. And I'll be training shortly. Details to come.
Did anyone watch the Missionary Broadcast on Sunday? That was nuts. I could go on and on, but I'll just share and butcher my favorite quote from Elder Nelson...something along the lines of..."Don't wait for someone to tell you to be a missionary. Labor out of love." Really. That's all missionary work is. Do you want the people you love to have the same happiness and joy you do?  Than share it with them! I hope everyone, mostly the members here, will feel empowered by the broadcast and have a stronger desire to share with those around them- and in turn, help the missionaries....#Ihateknockingdoors

I will say though, as of late...we keep getting new people to teach. Not by our own knocking doors and finding...but thru others. It truly makes things so much better! For instance. On Wednesday, we went to the hair salon were Rebecca works (I believe I've mentioned her once or twice). We teach her in the afternoons, when she's at work but no so busy. Side note. She keeps saying that she wants to come to church, but can't, because she runs the salon...and she needs someone to take her spot on Sunday, if she were to leave. Anyway. When we showed up to the lesson, there was a sign on the door, staying that they're hiring someone just for Sunday. Bless her heart. Back to where I was....we're about to start teaching, when one of her good friends, also a coworker, walks up and says that she wants to listen and learn more. She tells us how she's Catholic, but doesn't like it, because "Catholics don't act like Christ"...and about some family issues she's having. Rebecca and I both have our "Restoration" pamphlets open, and on the first page, it talks about how the gospel blesses families. I felt like I should share that with her. As soon as I thought that, Rebecca realized the bold print "Gospel Blesses Families" - and pointed it out to her friend, and told her all about it. Investigators teaching new investigators? Ehhh. Pretty sweet deal.  They both seemed pretty excited about the things we taught them. Follow up lesson on Wednesday.

Random note. Hermana Flores (new member who feeds us every Friday...bless her heart, she's the best) taught us how to make Pambazos. Oh. My. Goodness. People. Food does not get any better than this. If anyone is interested...I plan on making these on the daily when I return home. Haha! Just thinking about them makes me happy  <---is that weird? Eh?

It's amazing to see the work starting to move along. Things have been awesome this last week! I love you all so much. Thanks for the love and support! Remember. #supportyourlocalmissionaries.

Love, Hmna Mortensen.
