June 17th, 2013 - Mundelein, IL

Hey Family!
I really don't have anything to say this week. It's been slow. If there's anything I've learned- missionary work is up and down, and you can never really know what's gonna happen.
I had a big "first" this week. Did I have my first Spanish contact? Yeah yeah. Ya'll are probably wondering why it's taken almost two transfers for me to do it...it's scary! Ha. Besides. Deleon won't do them in English...sooo, I do the English ones and she does Spanish. Anyway. Just to give the little background. Before we left for the day, I prayed that we'd have the courage to talk to EVERYONE - we're sometimes bad at that. So, we're walking thru this neighborhood and I see a nice Hispanic lady sitting outside her drive way. Did either one of us say anything when we walked by? No. But! When we came back around, I said "hola, como esta?"...if I do this, Hermana Deleon will usually finish the rest.... so I said it, and then turned around to see where Hermana Deleon was, and of course she's like 20ft behind me (she's kind of a slow walker sometimes)...I turned back around...and it just came. I had a nice little conversation with this lady. Kinda nuts. Walking back to our car, after getting her information, we were both just in awe at what happened. Spanish people. It came. Btw. She keeps telling me that I'm going to train this upcoming transfer...in a week. Ha! Good one, Hermana Deleon.
Mom. Remember Kathryn McClane? The girl that moved into the singles ward like two weeks before I left? From Chicago? You know, I kinda took her under my wing and everything, before I left? Anyway. Last week, after sacrament meeting, her mom came up to me and introduced herself. Ha! Turns out she's living in our branch boundaries- just not our area. Crazy small world, right? Anyway. If I'm not transferred out next week (which I probably wont be) then we're eating dinner with them next Wednesday.
Our investigator, Antonio, came to church with us again yesterday. So sick. Love this man! He's so solid. And the ward members. Ah. They're the best. Really, they were amazing at taking care of him and making him feel welcome. After church, we taught him a lesson with the help of Hermana and Hermano Quevedo (Jessica's Parents). Ha. I just wanna take those two to all of our lessons. They're great at teaching...and it makes it easier for me :) We invited him to be baptized...for the 3rd time...and again, in a round about way, he said no, and that he wouldn't do it until he quit one of his 3 jobs. But after our lesson, (we're still in the chapel, btw) another ward member came up to him and asked when he's being baptized. Ha. He looked at us, and was like, "oh, the Hermana's gave me the date of June 29th, so I guess then". Haha....so we're shooting for then :) Also. One of the other sets of Elders in our branch are having a baptism this week- and after announcing it in Sacrament meeting, Antonio told us that he really wanted to go so that he could see what it's going to be like when he gets baptized. Bless his heart.
One last thing. Saturday. Woof. What a day. By 1pm, all of our lessons had cancelled and we were left to knocking doors. No one gave us the time of day, honestly. And as were about to go home for dinner, Hermana Deleon said that we should stop by this trailer park near our house and knock there. First one. Golden. It was this older white lady, English speaking of couse...her name's Kathleen. Anyway. It was one of those random doors that Hermana Deleon starts talking at..and she asks her if she has faith in Christ and how she got that faith. Kathleen told us about when she was 4 or so, her parents died...and that's when she knew there was a God (a little backwards,right.....but I'm not questioning it). But she said how she grew up Catholic, and she questioned EVERYTHING - but the "little old nuns" never gave her the answers she wanted...so she's kinda been flying solo. After her and I talked for a bit, I testified about eternal families and such. She asked how I knew, and what exactly I believed. After teaching the second half of the Plan of Salvation there on her porch, she thought I was a little crazy...and that all of this "nonsense" came from our "Mormon Book". I showed her the scriptures in 1st Corinthians about the different kingdoms, the sun, moon, and the stars. Of course, it never made sense to her - but it started to click. Loved this moment. I can't wait until I can talk with everyone like that, and not just the English speaking people. It was painful to have to call the English Elders and give her information to them :( I still don't think it's fair. But oh well! Hopefully they'll be able to answer some of her questions.

Welp. that's it. Love you all!
