Hello Everyone! What a week! Before I get into anything too spiritual...I'd like to share a little story (one I know Mama Mortensen has been dying to hear since Friday). Wednesday afternoon. I'm at the gym, just workin on my fitness - you know, minding my own....when another Hermana comes up to me and essentially pressures me into playing basketball with her and a few other sisters. Why? 1. I was wearing my UNM Womens' Basketball shirt and 2. I'm tall. Therefore, I must be awesome at basketball. Out of the goodness of my heart - I accepted the invitation. So we're doing our thing- I may or may not be showing the other sister a thing or two about the sport...everything I learned from Whitney. Haha...when I go up for a rebound...and BAM. I thought I just jammed my finger. Nope. I woke up the next day, to a huge purple finger. Point is. It's fractured. And if anyone cares to know...I was SOOOOO scared. Maybe not that scared. I have to go to a specialist on Tuesday, and hopefully they can tell me something about it? Still not sure what the purpose of this is. OH well! On the bright side, I did enjoy hearing my mother's voice on the phone when the nice receptionist lady had to call for insurance info. Mom, tell Whitters I'll be alright. And on another side note - if anyone is interested in sending me a "get well soon" package - I'm now accepting Girl Scout cookies. Samoas preferably. This might come as a surprise, but the Girl Scouts aren't allowed to come to the MTC. It's really quite a shame- they'd make bank here.
Besides the excitement of my fractured finger - this week has been great!
Highlight. Elder Ballard came on Tuesday for devotional. Most of what he had to say was about Preach My Gospel (obviously a big deal) and how we don't need to stress about learning the lessons - we already know them. We've been studying them for a long time. Two thoughts - we're all children of the most powerful, loving being. And two, we're miralces because of Him. I often stress about everything in the MTC and I'm sure those reading this have something stressful going on too. Don't stress though... I'm learning not to stress so much. It's all been taken care of - now it's just a matter of asking for help.
To answer some common questions I've been receiving...the majority of the food is, um, interesting. Defs not up to the standard I'm used to. Thanks for setting me up for failure, mom! Haha. I've learned to stick with spiniach wraps and cereal. Things you can't go wrong with. My companion's name is Hermana Smith, and she's from Highland, UT. Things are getting better in that department. The other two Hermanas in our room/district (they're also going to Chicago with us), are Erikson and Hungate. LOVE THEM. We laugh all the time, and always have a blast. The Elders in our district are also awesome! We have two 18 year olds (both of which are more mature than the others) and three 19 year olds. And they're all going to Mexico, either Tampico (?) or Mexico City.
Lastly...shout outs...
First. Shumway family. Ya'll are awesome. Brother Shumway - love the daily thoughts. I look forward to them daily...my roomates do too. I share them everynight :)
