Sooooo, this week. Definitely not as epic as the last. Gotta have the lows to appreciate the highs, right?
Mostly, I sprained my foot - or did something freaky to it on Tuesday. Tuff'd it out till Friday (mind you we were still doing our normal amount of walking). Called our senior sister that's in charge of all medical stuff Friday morning-- she essentially forced us to go to the urgent care that afternoon. Walked and traveled a good distance to get there. Had some x-rays taken just to for the doctor to tell me to stay off of it completely for 4 or so days. Uhhh #aintNOBODYgottimeforthat. Walked home. Went back to Westchester the next day for a BAPTISM. Saw President Woodbury....he chastised me a little for not listening to the doctor, and committed me to stay home. No visits. No working. Nothing....except for walking to the library to send this ;)
In other news. URI GOT BAPTIZED! Technicallllyyyyyy, I was never in his area- but I taught him, along with Hna Izu and Mansfield, when I was in a trio with them. When I say he's such a gem, I really mean it. Haha. He reminds me a lot of Jake! They have a lot of the same mannerisms, which is cool. After the baptism, he shared his testimony in front of everyone. Hands down one of the most powerful ones I've heard on my mission. Before H.Izu and Mansfield found him, he was REALLY involved with his church...he was in the praise band. Haha. And just a few days before they knocked on his door, he had been praying and fasting for more direction in his life. Cool, right? Anyway, the three of us taught him for a while, handed him over to the elders, and they brought him to the point of baptism. So awesome!
Other highlights of the week include....
---Purchasing a poncho and rocking it all weeks. #Ain'tgotroomforanumbrellawithalltheseBooksofMormon
---***Personal Favorite*** Meeting a sweet little old lady, Maxima, who's from the Philippines, while waiting at the bus stop. Started talking to her...rather, kept listening to her after she started. She got on the bus with us. Kept talking. (Mind you, we were at the very far end of our area and were headed back home for the night). We're about to get off when she puts on her glasses, looks rather confused, asks where we are...and then realizes that she got on the wrong bus and had gone really far with us. Oppps. Talk about feeling guilty. We were in what she considered the 'ghetto'. She was scared....sooooooo scared!...lost. And didn't have anyone to contact that could help her get home. Luckily Hna Madsen is a boss with the area and knows ALL the buses around here. We walked her to the bus stop she needed and waited with her. Haha. Still praying little Maxima made it home!
---Convinced one of the less active families in the ward to let us serve them...the Hermana bought flowers and let us clean out a little area and plant them. Put on the gloves and acted like I had done this before #childhood #CadaVerano #Lorieputustowork. Haha, I will say that it WASNT weird until Hermano said it was weird that they were sitting around while the white girls were doing THEIR landscaping...and then to make it even better, a few of their Hispanic neighbors walked by and haddddddd to mention it to them in Spanish. WE CAN UNDERSTAND YOUUUUU! haha.
One last thing. Any R.Ms on here that have advice for bus contacting? This may be the death of me. Goes like this. There are more creepers/pervy men in this area than you could imagine. They all seem to like me and smile at me..,so naturally I start talking to them...mostly because if they're smiling, I feel like maybe they've talked to missionaries before, or maybe they're secretly members, or maybe they've been stalking missionaries and have wanted to be taught for a long but have never been approached....whatever it may be...I feel like I have to talk. So I do. And then I get asked out, or feel violated in some way or another. Hahaha. All tips are welcome!
Welp. That's the novel for the week. Hopefully I'll heal up quick and have more goodness for y'all next week :)
Love you all!!
Hermana Mortensen
The rain here is crazy. It's all nice and clear...and then BAM. Flood. Oh yeah. And it's always windy, so umbrellas don't work. #problemsolved
La Güera....or, the blondie/white person. Many have referred to me as this.
Uri's baptism!!!!....we all taught him :) ...please notice my enormous mane. The humidity is doing a work and a wonder for sure.
Gardening!
